Masses of care, time and expertise has gone into the Lunan Bay Bunnet, 2023 Gansey edition, from farm to yarn to knit. A true heirloom piece. The Lunan Bay Bunnet, made with the first batch of our homegrown Scottish Cashmere, from our own Scottish Cashmere goats at Lunan Bay Farm, Scotland. This is first time in 30 years that Scottish Cashmere has been grown in this country, so this Bunnet is something to be cherished. Expertly handknitted by craft knitter, Jenny Petrie of Auchmithie Design, located 5 miles along the shore from us at the quaint fishing village of Auchmithie.
We tend to our herd of 170 Scottish Cashmere Goats along the stunning coastline of Lunan Bay, the only fibre producing Cashmere herd in the whole of Scotland and UK. We manage our goats regeneratively, working in harmony with nature and our treasured environment. Every Spring we gently hand comb our goats’ cashmere winter undercoats, which this naturally cast at this time of year. On average, Cashmere goats only produce around 200g of super soft Cashmere fibre per year hence why Cashmere is so highly prized.
Once harvested, our Scottish Cashmere is dehaired by Border Mill, an artisan micro-mill in the Scottish Borders. Our local artisan spinner, then blends small batches of our Cashmere with Angus Alpaca and Lunan Bay Shetland
Our yarn is expertly handknitted on needles by bonnet designer, Jenny Petrie to has created this unique design using her signature bumblebee and an Arbroath Gansey-inspired pattern. Ganseys were fisherfolk’s distinctive knitted workwear, specifically jumpers, with designs unique to each fishing community.
Only a limited number of The Lunan Bay Bunnet, 2023 Gansy edition will be made.

The Lunan Bay Bunnet, 2023 edition, can made to order so they can be customised to you size.
Measure the circumference of your head (in cm) where the rim of a hat would normally sit, along with the distance in cm from your crown to the rim. Send us these measurements and we’ll knit a Bunnet customised to you. Each hat has a good deal of stretch due to the number of stitches in the garment and elasticity in our Cashmere.
Bunnets will be made with 59% Angus Alpaca, 36% Lunan Bay Shetland and 5% Lunan Bay Cashmere.
The colour is charcoal. We will send you a photograph of the yarn before we start knitting your hat.
