Meet Cass, the passionate sheep-loving vet behind Edgemoor Yarns.
Cass’s journey into yarn began quite by chance while working as a farm vet in Devon. One day, while clipping the necks of a flock of British Berrichon ewes to take blood samples, she was struck by how incredibly soft and crimpy their wool was. Intrigued, she asked the farmer if she could buy a few fleeces from the young shearlings after clipping — and so began her first mill run in 2019, followed by a second, larger batch the next year.
Life has since carried Cass and her family 700 miles north to the Orkney Islands, where she now continues to hand-dye yarn and plan her next fleece collection amidst the windswept coastal landscapes.
Today, Edgemoor Yarns is the only UK company producing hand-dyed yarn from the wool of British Berrichon sheep — alongside small, carefully sourced lots of Orkney fibre such as Shetland × Cheviot and Bluefaced Leicester. Each skein is the result of Cass’s deep respect for sheep, soil, and the craft of turning fleece into something truly special.
