In addition to managing RT McEwan, his logistics and warehousing business, Neil McEwan co-founded and co-runs Lunan Bay Farm. Raised on his family’s farm, Neil gained invaluable farming experience from an early age. After pursuing a career in engineering in his twenties, he returned to the family farm and transport business, bringing with him a wealth of new knowledge.
Neil’s innate work ethic and curiosity for new projects keep him actively involved both operationally and strategically on the farm. He has a strong sense of responsibility towards the land and the environment. For Neil, his work is not just a job but a passion to which he has dedicated his life.
In his downtime, Neil enjoys making new feeding troughs for his goats, checking his bird feeders, monitoring the wildlife they attract, and planning his next project.
After a successful postdoctoral career in drug development with major pharmaceutical and biotech companies, Jillian transitioned to running an online food business that specialized in sourcing and distributing fine foods from small-scale Scottish producers throughout the UK. Through her work in the food sector and collaboration with chefs, Jillian discovered a strong demand for high-quality local produce with genuine provenance.
During this time, her husband Neil was exploring various diversification projects on their farm and was eager to adopt a regenerative approach to supply directly to consumers. This led to the establishment of Lunan Bay Farm.
On a day-to-day basis, Jillian manages Sales and Marketing at Lunan Bay Farm, along with management of the herd. She leads the Scottish Cashmere project, producing authentic Scottish-grown Cashmere fibre from their Cashmere goats—a first in over 30 years.
When she’s not working, Jillian enjoys walking her dogs, Rex and Bo, along Lunan Bay beach or tending to her garden.
Maddie Cairnie began working at Lunan Bay Farm during kidding season 2022, just after she gained her apprenticeship in Agriculture. Since then she has become a value part of our team here at Lunan Bay Farm. Maddie has a real passion for stockmanship and an obsession for goats. She is contracted to look after the health and wellbeing of our goats, helped by her trusty dog, Max. She also has a menagerie of her own animals, including goats and horses. Most recently, she has started her own Shetland and North Ronaldsay sheep enterprise at Lunan Bay, supplying us with high quality native and rare breed fleeces for our Scottish Cashmere project.
