Our field to fork business, Lunan Bay Farm, formerly Myreside Farms Produce, is located in the North East of Scotland in the pristine and very picturesque, Lunan Bay, where we grow our asparagus. Farmer Neil McEwan of Lunan Bay Farm started growing asparagus commercially in 2017 as he was keen to grow world class produce that we could sell direct to consumers.
Our Lunan Bay Asparagus season runs from early May through June for 6-8 weeks. Along with asparagus, we produce free range goat meat, honeyberries, Scottish cashmere and run goat breeding programs.
We currently supply our Lunan Bay Asparagus to restaurants (inc. Michelin starred Restaurants), farm shops, greengrocers, delis and fruit & veg wholesalers throughout Scotland. As well as retailers throughout Scotland, you can purchase our asparagus at our local Farmers Markets and at our Asparagus Drive-Thru from May-June.

It is officially the end of the British Asparagus Season. What a rollercoaster it has been this year for us! The Corona pandemic brought many challenges to us and our customers, but we adapted and with the support of our collaborators, our team and the public, we made it through! We were really bowled over by the demand for our Lunan Bay Asparagus.
We currently grow three varieties of green asparagus which are suitable to our soil and environment. All of our crop is grown outside in our well-draining, sandy soil in the region of Angus in Scotland. Commercial asparagus growing is relatively new in Scotland so we don’t experience problems with pests, so we keep spraying to a minimum. Our unusual microclimate is perfect for growing asparagus productively, however, it’s not just the climate but also the highly beneficial quality of our soil that gives our asparagus its unique flavour.
Led by farmer Neil McEwan, our small team grows, harvests by hand, grades and packages all our home-grown asparagus at our farm at Lunan Bay in Angus in the North East of Scotland. We use vintage tractors to tend to our asparagus to minimise soil compaction. We harvest by hand in the early hours of the morning when the flavour is at its optimum, then hand select emerald spears with blushing purple tips in our farm packhouse. From our farm in Angus, we can deliver the freshest spears in Scotland from field to fork within hours of harvesting.
As responsible guardians of our land, we constantly strive to run our farm sustainably. To minimise asparagus waste, we feed the surplus trimmings of asparagus to our herd of 400 goats and package our slightly misshapen spears and market these as our popular Wonky Grade asparagus. Increasing biodiversity on our farm is one of our key objectives. Our asparagus fields have attracted a colony of endangered lapwings to breed their every year, amongst other bird species.
Our Lunan Bay Asparagus can be enjoyed at over 100 restaurants in Scotland including several Michelin starred establishments. Our Scottish spears can be purchased at independent retailers throughout Scotland, farmers markets in Angus, Aberdeenshire & Fife and at our Asparagus Drive Thru on our farm. Check out our list for full details.
Our Lunan Bay Asparagus season is early May- late June and we take pre-orders on the run up to the season. We can supply restaurants, farm shops, greengrocers, delis and other retailers. We run a direct delivery service and work with fruit and veg distributors to deliver our spears throughout Scotland. Farm tours can arranged for customers, too. See below for further details on how to order.
