The Story
How Goats in Coats Began
It all started with cashmere.
As part of our pioneering work to produce homegrown Scottish cashmere here at Lunan Bay Farm, we began breeding our own herd of cashmere goats.
In 2022, we put out a simple request to our local community: could anyone knit a few tiny jumpers to help keep our newborn kids cosy?
We expected a handful.
Instead, our postie began arriving with sacks filled with tiny hand-knitted coats from all over the UK. They had been made by schoolchildren, experienced knitters, grandmothers and complete strangers who simply wanted to help. Many arrived with handwritten notes and stories from the people who had made them.
It became about much more than keeping a few baby goats warm.
That extraordinary response brought together everything we love about Lunan Bay Farm: farming, fibre, traditional skills, community and a slower, more thoughtful way of making things.
And from those first little knitted coats, Goats in Coats was born.

Goats in Coats is your opportunity to step onto our working farm during one of the most special times of our year. Meet our cashmere herd, discover where Scottish cashmere begins and learn more about the farming, fibre and wildlife that make Lunan Bay Farm rather different.
Baby Goat Nurseries
Meet our spring cashmere kids in their handknitted jumpers and watch them play, explore and find their feet in the world alongside their mothers.
The Cuddle Pen
Enjoy a supervised opportunity to get a little closer to some of our youngest goats. Our team will be there to help you meet them safely while making sure the welfare of the kids always comes first.
Meet the Herd
There is much more to Lunan Bay than baby goats. Meet some of the characters in our wider herd, including our breeding bucks and friendly Boer goats, while learning why goats are at the heart of our approach to regenerative farming.
Hop on the Goat Express
Pick up your hand-drawn farm map and follow the festival trail through the farm. Along the way, look out for some of the farmland birds that share our landscape, including Corn Buntings, Skylarks and Grey Partridges.
The Farm Hub & Shop
Finish your visit with something delicious from our festival bakery and refreshments, then browse our cosy Cashmere corner shop for Scottish fibre, yarn, gifts and products connected to the animals and landscape you’ve just experienced.
Goats in Coats Through the Years
Since our first Goats in Coats festival, thousands of visitors have joined us at Lunan Bay Farm to welcome our spring kids, meet the herd and discover the story behind Scottish cashmere.
Every festival has been a little different, but the heart of it has remained the same: sharing our farm, our animals and our work with the people who have supported the Lunan Bay Farm journey.
From tiny cashmere kids proudly wearing their hand-knitted coats to families exploring the farm and meeting some of our much-loved goat characters, Goats in Coats has created some very special memories over the years.

Location & Getting Here
Goats in Coats takes place at Myreside Farm, Inverkeilor, Angus.
Free visitor parking is available on the farm. Please follow the event signs and instructions from our parking team when you arrive.
Accessibility
We want visitors to be able to make an informed decision about whether the farm and festival are suitable for their individual needs.
As a working farm, some areas have grass, uneven ground and outdoor surfaces.

Farm Safety & Etiquette
Goats in Coats takes place on a working livestock farm, so there are a few important things we ask all visitors to do.
Footwear
Please wear sturdy outdoor footwear or wellies suitable for farm conditions. Disinfectant foot mats are provided where required to help protect the health of our animals.
Handwashing
Please wash your hands thoroughly with soap and water after touching animals and before eating or drinking. Handwashing facilities are provided around the festival site.
Pregnancy
Goats in Coats takes place during our kidding season, when goats may be giving birth or have recently given birth.
Scottish Government guidance advises pregnant women to avoid close contact with livestock during birthing periods because of the small but potentially serious risk of infections that can affect pregnancy.
For this reason, we do not permit pregnant visitors to attend Goats in Coats. We appreciate your understanding — the safety of our visitors and animals has to come first.
