ACCESS ADVICE FOR GOATS IN COATS 2026

Goats in Coats festival is an universally loved event held at Lunan Bay Farm. The experience takes place across indoor farm buildings and outdoor areas on a working farm. We aim to offer a welcoming and inclusive experience and to provide clear information to help visitors decide whether the event is suitable for their needs.

Event Format

  • Visitors attend via timed entry slots, with approximately 40 visitors per slot.
  • The experience is self-guided, allowing visitors to move at their own pace within the 1hr tour.
  • If you prefer a quieter experience, we recommend arriving around 10 minutes after your booked start time, once initial arrivals have spread out.

Indoor Areas

  • Around 80% of the experience takes place indoors. Indoor areas are large, well-ventilated sheds with high ceilings.
  • All indoor floors are concrete, step-free and level.
  • These spaces offer shelter from weather and a calmer environment during busy periods.

Outdoor Areas & Transport

  • Outdoor areas are accessed either on foot or by wheelchair via compacted ground, or using the Goat Express (an ATV pulling a covered 10-seater passenger vehicle).
  • Ground conditions outdoors may vary depending on weather.

Arrival & Parking

  • The car park is concrete and hard standing.
  • Disabled parking is available immediately adjacent to the tour entrance.
  • Stewards are available on arrival to assist if required.

Moving Around the Site

  • The route is step-free throughout indoor areas.
  • Outdoor surfaces are compacted but may be uneven in places.
  • Seating is available throughout the experience.
  • Visitors are welcome to pause, rest, skip areas or revisit spaces as needed.

Activities & Viewing Areas

  • Goat pens and activity areas are designed to be viewable without prolonged standing.
  • Visitors are welcome to engage at their own pace.
  • Animals are friendly but unpredictable, as expected in a working farm environment.

Cuddle Areas

  • Designated Goat Cuddle Areas are available indoors.
  • These are calm, supervised spaces where visitors can sit and interact gently with goats.
  • Engagement is optional and visitors may observe without participating.

Sensory Environment

  • The event includes animal sounds, children’s voices and general background noise.
  • Indoor areas tend to be quieter and more controlled than outdoor spaces.
  • Visitors are welcome to take breaks and rejoin the experience at any time.

Food & Drink

  • Food and drink is available on site during the event.
  • For public health and animal welfare reasons, food and drink may only be consumed in the designated food and drink area located at the entrance to the event.
  • Eating and drinking is not permitted elsewhere on site, including animal areas.
  • Seating is available in the designated food and drink area.
  • Queues may form at busy times.
  • Visitors may bring their own food and drink for medical or dietary needs, which must also be consumed in the designated area.

Handwashing & Foot Disinfection

  • Large foot disinfection mats are provided at both the entrance and exit and must be used by all visitors.
  • Wheelchair users can easily roll over the mats.
  • Mandatory handwashing stations are available at entry and exit points.
  • Staff are available to assist visitors through mats and with handwashing if required.

Toilets

  • Accessible toilet facilities are available on site and are located on level ground.

Assistance Dogs

  • Assistance dogs are welcome.
  • As livestock are present, dogs must be kept on leads at all times.

Staff Support

  • Staff and volunteers receive an accessibility and inclusion briefing before the event.
  • A named Accessibility Lead is present during each tour session.
  • Our team is happy to offer assistance or answer questions during your visit.

Limitations

Due to the nature of a working farm environment, we are unable to provide fully paved access to all outdoor areas, guarantee consistent ground conditions in all weather, or eliminate noise, crowds or animal movement.

Feedback

We welcome feedback from visitors to help us improve access and inclusion year on year.
